When Pokemon was first released back in the 90s’, there were only 151 fictional creatures and now, after years of fame and fandom, the franchise owns 718 Pokemon characters.

Right from a fire-breathing Charizard to a legendary beast like Mew, Pokemon has creatures of every kind and type. The series has many adorable Pokemons, like the fan favorite Pikachu but there are also a few ugly Pokemons.

There are some creatures in the series that are simply hideous to look at, but some of them actually have incredible abilities.Check out this list of the top 12 ugly Pokemons in the series –

Jynx is an Ice/Psychic type Pokemon, with a shape that resembles a human female figure. This Pokemon caused a lot of controversy because of its skin color which was originally black. The designers, however, had to change it to blue, but even today, many fans find this Pokemon quite disagreeable.

Well, the long blonde hair and the purple face just don’t match up with that ancient long, red robe. The large pink lips, saucer-like eyes, and huge arms give the character an ugly appeal. In the game series like Pokemon Red and Blue, Pokemon LeafGreen and PokemonFireRed, she is a rare Pokemon.

In the anime, Jynx is shown as a Pokemon that moves in a dance-like fashion and generally attacks by kissing or throwing orbs.

Sudowoodo is a rocky type Pokemon and has a hilarious body which resembles a tree. The Pokemon generally camouflages itself to avoid battles and evolves from Bonsley. This Pokemon is a second generation type that has made major appearances in the Pokemon movie series like Camp Pikachu.

But the Pokemon is quite a disappointment in terms of its design which is fairly plain-looking. The Pokemon looks like a tree that has been chopped off, especially since the leaves on the Pokemon are round shaped.

To some fans, the Pokemon also resembles a sausage because of its cylindrical shape and brown coloring. Sudowoodo has a hidden ability called Rattled but it is weak against water, fire and ice type Pokemons.

Drowzee’s body is half yellow and half grey in color but that doesn’t add much to its appeal. However the Pokemon’s psychic abilities are quite strong and it can make people go to sleep.

Drowzee can sense a person’s dreams and can produce nightmares in a victim’s mind. The Pokemon first appeared in the anime series, but can also be seen in Pokemon movies like Mewtwo Strikes Back, The Power of One, and Camping It Up!

The blob-like structure and its slimy movements in the anime are quite unappealing to the eye. Fans who find this Pokemon ugly also feel its purple body gives it a grim appearance. What’s more? – Grimer’s body contains pungent bacteria, which is potent for living matter.

The large beady eyes, a ghastly looking mouth and its grey tongue make it look scary in the anime. Grimer is weak against ground and psychic type Pokemons in the game series.

It has a bell-shaped body and a gaping mouth that consists of two teeth. This Pokemon isn’t very attractive especially because of its yellow body that has a number of spots on it. In the anime, Victreebel produces a sweet scent that lures its victims towards it during a battle.

Victreebel hops around a forest and often seen eating James which is always a comical scene to watch. The Pokemon is a shrewd fighter but it is weak against fire, psychic and ice types.

T Some Pokemon fans feel Lickilicky resembles a cotton candy and few others think the Pokemon looks like a roll of chewing gum. In the anime, this Pokemon is actually quite greedy for food and will lick anyone close by for leftover crumbs.

Lickilicky is not appealing to the eye and is a slow-moving Pokemon. The long tongue is always soggy and wet but its saliva contains an enzyme that causes its victims to become numb.

It is a pile of trash that looks like its spilling out of a garbage bag and hence has an unpleasant appearance. The round, lumpy body has a bleak coloring that is covered in blue and pink spots.

The head actually has been designed to look like a tied garbage bag. However, in the anime it looks like an enlarged mouse with a mouth that has crooked teeth.

The Pokemon was introduced in the anime episode Bamboozling Forest’ and was Jessie’s Pokemon in the fifth Pokemon series. It is pinkish in color and is generally found in different sizes. The weirdest part about its appearance is a set of glowing eyes that is meant to spook viewers. However Pumpkaboo has a ghostly figure that appears to sit atop the pumpkin, but it looks more like a black cat with fangs.

Another ugly looking Pokemon from Generation VI is Phantump which is supposed to resemble a tree stump. The Pokemon is a ghost/grass type that has a child’s spirit possessing the stump. Phantump is meant to give a scary appearance, however, many fans find it creepy and ugly looking.

The Pokemon is a rotten tree stump that has a grey coloring, large black eyes and branches that are pointed upwards. It first appeared in the anime episode Making Friends and Influencing Villains.

The Pokemon can imitate sounds and has a hidden ability called Harvest. It can evolve into Trevenant and is the only Pokemon that can learn a grass-type move called Forest’s Curse that a combat Pokemon into a grass type as well.

Stunfisk is a ground and electric type Pokemon that was introduced in Generation V. This Pokemon is supposed to resemble a trap, but it looks more a flattened fish. But this Pokemon is quite ugly looking and cannot evolve into a higher form.

It has a semicircle-like tail that is yellow in color, a flat mud-brown body and big opal shaped eyes. Stunfisk isn’t very pretty looking as compared to other Pokemons from Generation I – IV.

It can leap into the air and use its fins to fly which gives it an absurd appearance. If someone touches this Pokemon’s tough skin, then a victim is bound to get electrified.
